When Volkswagen brought the New Beetle Cabriolet to market in 2003, it wasn't simply a hatchback with the roof cut away - the doors, floor and A and B pillars all gained high-strength reinforcing tubes, plus a rollover protection system built in from the start. That structure is what this kit's window openings are cut against for the full 2003-2010 run.

A Roof That Disappears in 13 Seconds

The powered soft top folds down behind the rear seats and settles over the boot lid, echoing the fabric roof on the original Beetle Cabriolet rather than copying a modern coupe-convertible's hard folding roof. Despite the fabric construction, Volkswagen tuned the cabin for noise levels close to the closed-roof hatchback.

Front and rear depths are ordered separately here, from a light 70% through to a near-opaque 5%, so you can go lighter up front and darker behind if you want, or match the two. Two bonded layers give the film more resistance to flexing than a single sheet would, which matters on doors that see plenty of use with the top down.

Does folding the roof down affect how the side windows tint sits? No - they retract into the doors the same way regardless of roof position, so the film isn't put under any different strain either way.
